A History of Wild Places - Book 5 of 2022

This weekend’s binge read? A History of Wild Places by Shea Ernshaw. This was a Book of the Month for December and I picked up a copy because every review I read was a rave. My review? Another rave.

I don’t know exactly what I was expecting but the book has plenty of intrigue and twists. I fell for Travis from the very beginning, and then fell hard for Bee and Calla. Every character pulled me into their world. Switching perspectives helped keep the twists and turns visible on the horizon and yet maintaining a lovely surprise reveal. I definitely didn’t grab a full understanding of all the pieces until the very end.

As someone who regularly dreams of grabbing some friends and disappearing into the woods to form a commune, the world of Pastoral almost read as a cautionary tale against my dream. At the end of the day, though, even after all the warnings, I would live in a place like Pastoral. I think I could thrive there. So, who wants to run away to the woods and start an idyllic commune with me?
